Overview

Bunbury Skin Cancer Clinic is pleased to offer Dermapen, which is a non-surgical treatment option for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scarring including acne and post-surgical, stretch marks and many other conditions.

How does Dermapen Work?

Through this innovative skin rejuvenation technique, numerous ultra-fine puncture wounds are created over the treatment area which in turn stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin, restoring a healthier appearance to the skin.  The micro channels created by the Dermapen allow the delivery of product down into the dermal layer of the skin.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Dermapen can be used on all areas of the body. It is safe to use on all skin types regardless of age or skin colour.

What is the difference between Dermapen and other laser skin rejuvenation techniques?

In contrast to other ablative techniques like Lasers and Fraxel treatments, the Dermapen stimulates new tissue formation while leaving the skin intact. The superficial skin does not get damaged (unlike other needling devices) and therefore will not go into a wound healing response.

Clinical trials comparing fractional laser with Dermapen treatment report similar results in improvement in skin conditions.

Dermapen is a cost effective way to treat the skin compared to more invasive procedures.

How is the treatment performed?

Prior to treatment your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated. A topical anaesthetic is then applied for 30 mins to ensure your following treatment is pain free.

The Dermapen needling device is then used to perform several passes over the required treatment area. The micro needles penetrate the upper and lower strata of the skin at targeted and specific depths. A treatment cream will also be applied to your skin at this time to further enhance results.

A specialised moisturiser and light foundation will then be applied over the treated area.

How many treatments will I need?

At your initial consultation your Doctor will discuss the number and frequency of treatments you may need to achieve the best results.

As a general guide:

Condition Treatment guide
Facial Rejuvenation 4-6 treatments (4 weeks apart)
Acne scarring 6-10 treatments (6 weeks apart)
Stretch marks ~10 treatments (4 – 6 weeks apart)

What is the down-time after a Dermapen treatment?

In the first 12-48 hours it is expected that you will experience some redness and minimal swelling, much like the appearance and sensation of sunburn.

You will need to avoid sun on your face for the next 3 days to allow optimal healing. If scarring is being treated, heightened redness and localised superficial bruising may occur.

What are the side effects of Dermapen?

No negative side effects have ever been reported in over 150,000 procedures performed worldwide since the introduction of Dermapen.

Post treatment infections are very unlikely with proper after care.

Your skin will feel hot and tight and look flushed post treatment but this is all part of the process of stimulating the skin.

What results can I expect?

Some results may be seen after the first treatment, lasting and more significant results will occur after 4-6 treatments. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.

What should I use on my skin post-treatment?

It is important to keep your skin hydrated and protected from the harsh environment. A high-quality skin care range is critical to ensure the best results.

Following Dermapen treatment, Bunbury Skin Cancer Clinic recommends day and night treatment creams from the Beaute Pacifique range of cosmeceutical products. This range includes bioactive components which promote restoration of skin density.
